Lent, with an Eco Twist

So last night’s Dinner of Pancakes in celebration of Shrove Tuesday can only mean one thing, the start of Lent today.

Usually at this point of the year I would give something up, Chocolate, moaning, swearing. ..Not all at once, that would be horrendous!

But this year, instead of giving something up, I have decided to do two things which are both also benefiting the environment.

40 Days - 40 Items

I came across this on Instagram and fell in love with the idea. For every day of Lent, you place an item that you no longer use/need into a bag. At the end of the 40 days, you donate your 40 items to charity. Win win. Someone else can make use of items I no longer need.

The second one is to eat and cook with only whole foods for the 40 days.

‘How will this give Lent and eco twist’ I hear you ask! Well...

I buy lots of pulses, nuts and dried fruit from my local Eco Village anyway, so those are packaging free. I also buy from the local fruit and veg market stall at the Eco Village, and choose the loose fruits and vegetables at the supermarket. I always strive for a whole food diet, but packaged foods, mainly snacks, always end up in the trolley at some point, out of necessity and time.

I’ll be interested to see how much both the black bin and recycling bin is reduced.

I’ll post my charity shop bag at the end of the 40 days!

Thanks for reading x
